Wendy’s dad doesn’t live with them. A kid at school, Simon McTavish, keeps teasing her about her absentee dad, and also because she easily cries for sad stories.

For the Parents’ evening, she has a wonderful idea to let her class put on an exhibition of “Interesting Things”. Simon McTavish sabotages her idea to bring an old war helmet, so she takes Slinky, her Granddad’s snake, instead. Slinky manages to slip out of her bag, but leaves his skin behind, and this leaves the teachers in an uproar. When confronted, Wendy lies about having even seen the snake the skin belongs to, but she does what it takes to rescue him from a tree. When a fireman has to rescue Wendy from the same tree, she finds out something quite interesting about Simon.

Written by loved childrens’ author Michael Morpurgo, this story is aimed at ages 5+, reader level 8-11yrs. It is a Reading Ladder Level 2 / Red Banana Book.
