Book Club Meeting 10 June 2017

At our Book Club Meeting this month we continued in our “getting wanty” theme from our last meeting – sometimes we get stuck on something we want, adults and children alike, and what we want is not necessarily what we need. When we get so fixed on our WANT, our world shrinks and all we can think of is that particular thing. We learned how to use our senses to open ourselves up to the world around us and make that WANT smaller, even to the extent that it doesn’t matter anymore! Very insightful!

Leigh, our hostess, read two stories suiting our theme well. The first is A TREE IS NICE by Janice May Udry, illustrated by Marc Simont, – a radiant and buoyant picture book that draws the attention of the reader to the multiple good uses of trees and the beauty of our everyday world. Recommended for guided reading for Grade 1 and 2. ISBN: 9780064431477.

You can listen to a reading of the book here:

The second book was THANK YOU JACKSON by Niki and Jude Daly. It is a book about appreciation and communicating it to those we depend on, reminding us, as the boy reminded his father, that we all need a little gratitude to get moving some days, and that manners can go a long way. ISBN: 9781847804846

You’ll remember that Niki Daly also wrote Nicholas and the Wild Ones. You can read about him on our Kids Book Club Facebook Page.
