A family of bunnies have run out of carrots. One after the other they leave to fetch some more supply, but each one returns empty-handed because of a big bad bully bunny. This story is beautifully illustrated and parallels the reality of being bullied, and how a bully’s hurtful words can change a person’s beliefs about themselves, and their actions. But it also points out that anyone can stand up against a bully to break the pattern and stop him in his tracks.
The bully bunny calls the other bunnies “hurtful” words such as “stupid”, “ugly” and “fat”, which makes the relation to the story more real, as those are the types of words bullies actually use. Kids who know name-calling is wrong will immediately be all over the reader for reading those words, but it provides a valid discussion point.
The story, even with a deep topic, is presented in a playful, light way to which kids can relate, helpful for identifying feelings.
