Judith Kerr is a British writer and illustrator, born in Berlin, Germany. She had to flee Nazi Germany in 1933 with her family, later settling in England. Her father was a drama critic and distinguished writer who dared to speak out against the Nazi regime. This unfortunately caused his books to be burned by the Nazis, and a price was put on his head.

Judith wrote about her experiences in her best-selling novel for middle-grade readers When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit, and is also the author and illustrator of a number of picture books, including The Tiger Who Came to Tea (which has since sold more than one million copies worldwide), the Mog series, and her latest publication When Willy Went to the Wedding (2015).

Judith won a scholarship to the Central School of Arts in 1945, and since then has worked as an artist, television scriptwriter and, later, as an author and illustrator of children’s books. In July 2016 Judith Kerr won a Book Trust Lifetime Achievement Award.
