A bit wintery, but yet again another lovely meeting with members of our Kids’ Book Club this month!
Our theme this time was “Pets”, and the kids were really engaged in the reading of the stories.
The first book Leigh, our hostess, read was “Dear Zoo” by Rod Campbell (ISBN: 9780140504460). This is a much loved classic picture book (lift-the-flap-book), which is a story about requesting a pet, and the zoo kept sending the wrong type of animal! And just when you think they’ll NEVER get it right, they send the very best, most perfect pet of all…
There is never a substitute for experiencing a live reading of a story, but to preview the book, you can view a reading here:

The second story we read was “Black Dog” written by Levi Pinfold (ISBN: 9780763660970), the same author of “The Greenling” (also available to our book club members).
When a huge black dog appears outside the Hope family home, each member of the household sees it and hides. Only Small, the youngest Hope, has the courage to face the black dog, who might not be as frightening as everyone else thinks. It is a story about fear grown wild, and how facing it puts it into perspective.

Until next time!
