Homecoming by Michael Morpurgo

homecoming-sml

Written in Michael’s engaging writing style, he tells a story from his boyhood fifty years earlier when plans were made to erect a nuclear power station on the marshes near the village where he grew up, and the feud that developed amongst those who were FOR the building of this power plant and those against it. It is a heart-rending tale with which we can identify as history repeats itself as technology develops and people want more and better.

This tale also shows, though, and the author also comments on how not-so-nice events in a person’s life may be a blessing in disguise, because it may lead to meeting wonderful people who have a lasting impression on a person’s life.

It opens up discussion topics such as bullying, environmental issues, impact of people’s decisions, and economic ‘progress’.

Beautifully illustrated by Peter Bailey, but will appeal to slightly more confident readers, as a few “big” words are used such as brazier, radiation, dwindeling, etc.
