Julia Donaldson is an immensely talented author of the world’s best-loved picture books. She was born in 1948, grew up in London and studied Drama and French at Bristol University. She wrote and performed songs and street theatre with her husband, Malcolm, and also directed musicals for children. Later she wrote songs for children’s television, and in 1993, A Squash and a Squeeze was made into a book. She has since written over a hundred books and plays for children and teens.
Julia doesn’t write only picture books, but her work includes fiction and educational books (some of which form part of the Oxford Reading Tree).
Julia Donaldson was Children’s Laureate from 2011-2013. She is now also patron of the charity Artlink Central which engages artists to work in hospitals, prisons and schools.
She lives in Bearsden, Glasgow, with her husband, Malcolm, and two cats.
More of Julia’s books can be seen here. We have a few of her books in our Kids Book Club, including A Squash and a Squeeze, The Gruffalo and Monkey Puzzle, and the children enjoy them very much!
