Book Club Year End Function 10 Nov 2018

Jumping CastleWhat a wonderful turn up for our Year End Function! The kids were REALLY so excited about all the action – their little stalls (which included a wide variety of interesting, fun and yummy items for sale, as well as a photo booth and drawing competition, which the kids manned themselves!), the jumping castle, the gift packets, the exchange of books, and just visiting together one final time for the year!

The kids’ stalls looked beautiful, and it was amazing to see how much effort was put in to prepare these tables and provide an entrepreneurial opportunity for the kids!

Book Rating RewardAfter our welcome song (which the kids sang out loud so the neighbours could hear!!), and all our thank-you’s and good-byes, we rewarded our avid readers for their participation in our Book Rating Project this year to try to encourage the kids to better their own reading skills, which will ultimately improve their learning.

We unfortunately had to say good-bye to three of our Book Club families, who are relocating at the end of the school year. Having been members for such a long time, and having brought so much energy, it is certainly hard to have to say good-bye. But it is also with great pleasure that we welcome all our new members, and we look forward to our journey together from now on.

What the members don’t always realize is that their involvement in our Kids Book Club, whether it is donations, participation in our projects (like our Book Rating Project), covering books, feedback on the quality of books, book reviews, or just attending meetings, make it a success. Without our members, we would not grow, or have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our children, and children outside our circle of friends – to help them in their journey to become better readers and learners.

We started our Book Club in 2015 with 4 kids as members! We have grown to our current count of 55 children altogether, and we hope to continue growing, touching children’s lives, changing their futures, helping them to develop into leaders through encouraging reading and assisting in their learning and developing.

The Book Club itself is also relocating, so it was a day of closure for all of us. We’re excited about our new “office space” at the Hulp en Hoop Community Church Youth Centre, Drawing Competitionwhere our library will be more accessible to our members, and it is also for this reason why we had our fundraising stall at the Museum Day at Arend Dieperink Museum today! Our members’ contribution (donations) for this stall was so amazing! We have some real talented people amongst our Book Club Family, and we’re so lucky to have you!

Well, without further adieu, following are some pics of the stalls at our Year End Function, and of some of the art from the drawing/colouring competition. A great BIG Thank You to Artist Inneke Koch for donating a beautiful painting as prize for the winner of the competition!

Also, 5 golden stars to Meghann Cox (9), who came up with the idea for the mini-fair. Megs, it was a brilliant idea, and a great success! Well done!

The Gift Packets

I thought it good to give each kid a simple gift packet which contained a small packet of chips and biscuits, as well as an A7 spiral bound Notebook. Gift packets for kids over the age of 7 also included a pencil, and those for under 7 years included crayons. Maybe we have some future authors/illustrators growing from this!
