Junie B’s class is going to have a Pet Day at school, but the rules state that neither cats nor dogs will be allowed at school. If a student only has a cat or dog as a pet, they may only present a picture on Pet Day. Junie B is not happy with this arrangement, and follows her grandma’s advice to find another pet before Pet Day, and to simply accept the fact that she can’t take her dog.
Grandma gives Junie B a gift, but at first Junie B doesn’t like her new pet, Noodle. Junie B finds Noodle some friends when she thinks he’s lonely, but in her hysteria she “misplaces” Noodle and doesn’t see him again. The pet she finally chooses to take to school for Pet Day, proves to be the best pet ever, and causes the most rewarding day for her class!
This funny chapter book is aimed at ages 7-9 for self-read. It is written with pre-schooler whit, with words like “runned”, “flied” and “excitingest” really bringing out the character of Junie B’s age-group.
