Jez Alborough, creator of the bestselling books WHERE’S MY TEDDY? and IT’S THE BEAR!, was born (and grew up) in Kingston upon Thames in South West London, England, in 1959. He loved drawing and painting from small, and always wanted to be an artist. He attended art school in Norwich, after which he started writing and illustrating children’s picture books, the first of which was a story that revealed what the polar bear wears under his familiar white furry coat (BARE BEAR).
Jez has written and illustrated over forty picture books; including the Eddy and the Bear series (Where’s My Teddy, It’s the Bear and My Friend Bear), which were turned into a Bafta award winning television series. You can read more about his book Watch Out! Big Bro’s coming! here.
Jez’s book HUG inspired a Hugathon at Thomas’ Preparatory School in London, of which he took part with 480 pupils that set a new world record for the most people hugging in one place at the same time.
Jez’s favourite books as a child were A. A. Milne’s Now We Are Six (especially the poem “Wheezles and Sneezles”) and Bennet Cerf’s Book of Riddles. His favourite book for children now is Oh, the Places You Will Go by Dr Seuss.
Jez is not only an illustrator and a writer, but also a musician (he wrote the theme music for Duck in the Truck, and he plays rhythm and lead guitar in a Blues Band called The Jackals).
