Book Review: The Everything Kids’ Geography Book

We used The Everything Kids’ Geography Book as a guideline for 2nd Grade Geography, to get to know the world a little better. I divided the text of every chapter into shorter sections so that we could finish the chapter in about 4 weeks. Some chapters took a little longer to finish, but I managed to schedule the book for a period of 40 weeks.

We only studied Geography once a week, so we didn’t study all the countries in detail. But we finished a Travel Sheet for at least one country on each continent.

The Everything Kids’ Geography Book covers (in a nutshell) the following:

  • Introduction to Geography
  • The United States
  • Canada, Mexico and Beyond
  • South America
  • Europe
  • The Middle East
  • Asia
  • Africa
  • Australia
  • Antarctica and Beyond

This book does not include full color images or in-depth descriptions, but it does give a good overview of every continent and it’s countries. Some words are explained in the margin, and there is some key information on the countries, such as capital city, population, highest & lowest points, area and national holidays. I used the book as a guideline to “tour” the world, and collected photos and other information on the places mentioned in the book (see my article Geography – getting to know the world.
