Book Club Meeting 18 May 2019

We're going on a bear huntWe’re going on a bear hunt by Michael Rosin has reached its 30th anniversary this year, and we had our own celebration today at our Kids Book Club meeting for May 2019! All our members had some fun participating in a song of the book, which turned out to be quite fun!

We’re going on a bear hunt has “won numerous awards and was the subject of a Guinness World Record for “Largest Reading Lesson” with a book-reading attended by 1,500 children, and an additional 30,000 listeners online, in 2014” (Wikipedia).

We're going on a bear huntThe book is about five children and their dog who very bravely go on a “bear hunt”, but have to face several obstacles on their journey (each of the obstacles, apart from the river, are based on real life locations in England and Wales). When they finally come face to face with a real bear, the children turn on their heels and hurry back home. It makes for a fun, interactive read as they journey, and also when they rush back through the obstacles in the reverse order as they encountered them on their walk. The repetition and rhythm of the text make it easy for kids to learn and repeat.

The book has won several distinguished awards and has never been out of print!

We are in a book

We are in a bookWe are in a book by Mo Willems is another interactive story that kids will find fun to read! Today, Zanya and Ziulay took turns reading the speech bubbles of Gerald and Piggy as they discover the joy of being read, having been cast as stars to lead this book, exploring the ins and outs of being characters that the reader must follow. But what will happen when the book ends?

Perfect for early readers!

We are in a book is part of the Elephant & Piggie adventures (#13)
