Art Appreciation

I must admit that it was a bit daunting to me to start Art Appreciation this year, because I myself am not a very big fan of Artists and their art.

Even though, a person doesn’t have to neglect or omit any subject because of lack of knowledge or interest. A little research goes a long way!

I put together an Art Appreciation Curriculum for this year (Grade 3) using some “Famous Artists” as inspiration from Practical Pages. This includes simple, practical art projects to discover the different artists’ styles. These lesson plans I will share here.

The curriculum consists of a study of 5 artists, divided into 6 lesson plans each, and includes:

  • a biography of the artist (mostly from makingartfun.com)
  • a timeline entry
  • an “Artist Biography Form” worksheet on which to record narrative information about the artist we’re studying
  • some bits of information about some popular artworks of the artist

Offered with a lot of love, from the heart, even those kids whose (like me) strongpoint is not art, will enjoy it (like my son)!

So here are the artists our 3rd Grade Art Appreciation Curriculum consists of:

  • Pablo Picasso
  • Jackson Pollock
  • Henri Matisse
  • Michelangelo
  • Leonardo da Vinci

You can download the lessons I collected in PDF form here:

01 – p1-8 – Pablo Picasso
02 – p9-19 – Jackson Pollock
03 – p20-26 – Henri Matisse
04 – p27-35 – Michelangelo
05 – p36-50 – Leonardo da Vinci
06 – Timeline Entries

And you can download our Art Appreciation Outline for Grade 3:
