The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson

ISBN: 9780142403877

Written in catchy, easy-to-read, yet dramatic rhyme, and fantastically illustrated, The Gruffalo tells a story of a little mouse taking a stroll through the woods, where danger lurks around every corner. But Mouse is smart and is not shaken. He invents a Gruffalo, a monster with “terrible tusks and terrible claws, terrible teeth, and terrible jaws” to scare off his foes. And when a real Gruffalo finally appears, mouse very calmly also outwits him! Brilliant!

The Gruffalo was first published in 1999 and is now regarded as a modern classic. It has won many awards, including the Nestlé Smarties Prize and the Blue Peter Award for The Best Book to Read Aloud – and in 2009 was voted the UK’s favourite bedtime story. It has also been translated into over fifty languages!

Five years after the publication of The Gruffalo, The Gruffalo’s Child was introduced. It was voted The Children’s Book of the Year at the British Book of the Year Awards in 2005.
