Book Review: Usborne Geography Encyclopedia

geo-encyclopedia
We used this book to complement our “journey” around the world, as we studied the continents and the countries they contain for 2nd Grade Geography.

The Usborne Geography Encyclopedia has a compilation of nutshell information and photographs that gave us a feel for the people in other countries and their traditions. It also contains a complete world atlas (which came in handy finding the borders of the countries we studied), and a “Gazetteer of States” which include the flags of the different countries, the area, population, capital city, main languages, main religion, government and currency… (Everything we needed to complete our Travel Notebook!).

The Usborne Geography Encyclopedia covers the following:

  • Planet Earth
  • Earthquakes and Volcanoes
  • Rivers and Oceans
  • Weather
  • Climate
  • World Ecosystems
  • People and the World
  • Peoples of North America
  • Peoples of South America
  • Peoples of Australasia and Oceania
  • Peoples of Asia
  • Peoples of Europe
  • Peoples of Africa
  • Atlas of the World
  • Maps of North America
  • Maps of South America
  • Maps of Australasia and Oceania
  • Maps of Asia
  • Maps of Europe
  • Maps of Africa
  • Maps of the Arctic and Antarctica
  • Fact File, which includes:
    • Geographers and Scientists (what is it?)
    • World Records (highest mountains, longest rivers, earthquakes, volcanoes, storms etc.)
    • Cycles of Planet Earth
    • Times Zones
    • Looking at Stars

It also includes internet links to access more information on the subjects dealt with.

We also used this book in our Grade 5 Curriculum, as well as Grade 6.
