Book Review: Usborne First Encyclopedia of Science

This book is part of the Usborne Internet-linked series, and is good for use as lessons for science. Every double-page spread covers a different topic, and includes age-appropriate information, full-color illustrations, and some links to internet resources – enough for a complete lesson for young children.

The Usborne Internet-linked First Encyclopedia of Science covers the following:

  • What is science?
  • What scientists do
  • Our universe
  • What is the Earth made of?
  • The seasons
  • Weather
  • Living things
  • Cells
  • Plants
  • Animals
  • Your body
  • Bones and muscles
  • What happens to food?
  • Your brain and senses
  • Atoms and molecules
  • Solids, liquids and gases
  • How materials change
  • Energy
  • Forces
  • Hot and cold
  • Gravity
  • Floating
  • Friction
  • Magnets
  • Light and color
  • Sound
  • Electricity
  • Computers

We found some lapbook resources on each of these topics, and added it to our science book after we read the information in this book. Buck found it very interesting and enjoyed it very much.
